The Ideal Men’s Skincare Routine by Type

Men generally have it pretty good when it comes to skin concerns. We don’t usually spend a lot of money on skincare, and we can get away with not moisturizing (for the most part). But that doesn’t mean we don’t have specific skin concerns of our own! In fact, according to a recent study by the American Association of Dermatologists, 1 in 4 men said they feel concerned about their skin, citing common issues such as excess oil, dry and sensitive skin, and aging.

So, what are the most common skin concerns for men? And more importantly, what are some simple but effective solutions?

Oily Skin

If you have oily skin, you’re probably all too familiar with the never-ending cycle of shine and over-cleansing. While oily skin can be a pain to deal with, it does have its benefits. People with oily skin tend to age more slowly and have fewer wrinkles. That being said, there are some downsides to having oily skin – like clogged pores and breakouts. When it comes to moisturizing, look for products that are oil-free or non-comedogenic so they won’t clog your pores. Lastly, don’t forget the sunscreen! Oily skin is more susceptible to sun damage so be sure to apply SPF 30 or higher on a daily basis.

Dry Skin

If you have dry skin, you know that tight, uncomfortable feeling all too well. Dry skin is often caused by weather conditions like low humidity or extreme cold. It can also be the result of certain medical conditions or medications. The best way to combat dryness is by using a thicker moisturizer or ointment rather than lotion as they are more effective at trapping moisture in the skin. In addition, avoid hot showers and harsh cleansers as they will only further strip your skin of its natural oils. And lastly, drink plenty of water! Keeping your body hydrated will help keep your skin hydrated as well.

PCA Skin’s HydraLuxe Moisturizer is a rich, luxurious moisturizer that deeply hydrates the skin while providing anti-aging benefits. Perfect for all skin types, but especially dry and sensitive skin will really benefit.

Aging Skin

As we age, our skin begins to show signs of wear and tear. Fine lines and wrinkles start to form and our once bright complexion begins to fade. While there’s no way to completely stop the aging process (trust us, we’ve tried), there are some things you can do to slow it down. One of the best ways to combat aging skin is by using products that contain retinoids, Vitamin C, and Peptides as they help reduce fine lines and wrinkles while also evening out your complexion. In addition, be sure to wear sunscreen every day as sun damage is one of the leading causes of premature aging.
