For more than 20 years, SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic has been considered the gold standard in topical vitamin C. Its signature antioxidant combination—15% pure vitamin C, 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid—helped protect skin against environmental damage while improving visible signs of aging.

Now, SkinCeuticals has introduced a next-generation C E Ferulic formula. The updated serum preserves the antioxidant trio that made the original so popular while adding two new ingredients designed to address glycation, inflammation and pollution-related skin aging.

So, what exactly changed—and does the new C E Ferulic work better than the original?

What Stayed the Same?

The most important part of C E Ferulic has not changed.

The new formula still contains the original combination of:

  • 15% L-ascorbic acid
  • 1% alpha tocopherol
  • 0.5% ferulic acid

L-ascorbic acid is the pure, biologically active form of vitamin C. It helps neutralize damaging free radicals, support collagen production, brighten uneven tone and improve the appearance of fine lines.

Vitamin E provides additional antioxidant and moisturizing benefits, while ferulic acid improves the stability and antioxidant performance of vitamins C and E.

This combination remains the foundation of the new serum. SkinCeuticals also retained the acidic pH needed to help pure vitamin C penetrate the skin effectively.

The familiar amber bottle, dropper application, lightweight consistency and distinctive natural scent remain largely unchanged. This means longtime C E Ferulic users can transition to the new formula without learning a different routine or adjusting to a completely different product experience.

What Is New in C E Ferulic?

The updated formula adds two active ingredients: 0.3% carnosine and 1% Endophytol.

These additions expand the serum beyond traditional antioxidant protection by targeting two other processes associated with visible skin aging: glycation and chronic micro-inflammation.

0.3% Carnosine

Carnosine is a dipeptide made from two amino acids. It offers antioxidant benefits and is particularly interesting for its potential role in protecting skin proteins from glycation.

Glycation occurs when excess sugars bind to proteins such as collagen and elastin. Over time, this process can make these supportive proteins stiffer and less flexible, contributing to visible wrinkles, loss of elasticity and a sallow complexion.

Vitamin C already provides powerful antioxidant and collagen-supporting benefits, but it is not primarily an anti-glycation ingredient. Adding carnosine gives the new C E Ferulic another way to help protect the skin’s support structure.

SkinCeuticals also states that carnosine helps support the skin’s internal antioxidant defenses and preserve protein integrity.

1% Endophytol

Endophytol is a biotechnology-derived ingredient complex featuring dandelion root extract. SkinCeuticals developed it to help defend skin against pollution-related oxidative stress and chronic micro-inflammation.

This persistent, low-level inflammation—sometimes called “inflammaging”—can contribute to premature signs of aging and reduced skin resilience.

Endophytol is intended to:

  • Provide additional antioxidant protection
  • Help address pollution-induced oxidative stress
  • Calm chronic micro-inflammation
  • Support more resilient-looking skin
  • Potentially make the acidic vitamin C formula more comfortable for some users

This may be particularly appealing to customers who loved the results of the original C E Ferulic but found pure vitamin C slightly irritating.

Why Does the New C E Ferulic Work Better?

The original formula primarily focused on neutralizing free radicals and correcting visible damage. The new formula keeps that proven antioxidant system but targets a wider range of aging mechanisms.

Its more comprehensive approach includes:

  1. Oxidative stress: Vitamin C, vitamin E and ferulic acid help neutralize free radicals generated by UV exposure, pollution and other environmental stressors.
  2. Glycation: Carnosine helps protect the integrity of proteins such as collagen and elastin.
  3. Chronic inflammation: Endophytol helps address pollution-related oxidative stress and micro-inflammation.
  4. Structural aging: Vitamin C supports collagen production, while carnosine helps protect existing supportive proteins.
  5. Visible correction: The complete formula targets wrinkles, discoloration, uneven tone, dullness, texture, firmness and elasticity.

Instead of replacing what worked, SkinCeuticals added complementary ingredients intended to extend the original formula’s benefits. This makes the new version more comprehensive, especially for people concerned about firmness, resilience and multiple forms of environmental aging.

What Do the Clinical Results Show?

According to clinical testing conducted by SkinCeuticals, the new C E Ferulic formula:

  • Visibly reverses up to 10 years of aging signs associated with dullness and loss of firmness
  • Improves eight visible signs of aging
  • Makes skin up to eight times more resistant to environmental aggressors
  • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles by up to 36% in 16 weeks
  • Improves the appearance of discoloration by up to 40% in 16 weeks
  • Produces results across all tested skin tones

The official product page also reports improvements in radiance, firmness, elasticity, evenness and texture.

These are promising findings, although the detailed research has not yet been published as a peer-reviewed head-to-head study comparing the new formula directly with the original. For that reason, it is most accurate to say the new formula provides broader antioxidant and anti-aging support—not that every customer will necessarily see dramatically faster results.

Is the New Formula Better for Sensitive Skin?

Potentially, but it is still a 15% pure L-ascorbic acid serum with an acidic pH.

The addition of Endophytol may help reduce inflammation and improve the overall experience for some users. However, people with highly reactive skin, rosacea or a compromised skin barrier may still experience tingling or irritation.

Sensitive users should introduce the serum gradually, beginning every other morning before progressing to daily application.

Can You Still Use the Original C E Ferulic?

Yes. If you already own an unopened or recently opened bottle of the original C E Ferulic, there is no reason to discard it.

SkinCeuticals states that the original formula remains safe, stable and effective. The brand recommends using an opened bottle within three to six months. Once it is finished, you can transition directly to the updated formula.

The new C E Ferulic replaces the original rather than becoming a separate product.

How to Use the New C E Ferulic

Every morning:

  1. Cleanse and tone the skin.
  2. Apply four to five drops to dry skin.
  3. Distribute the serum over the face, neck and chest.
  4. Follow with moisturizer if needed.
  5. Finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

Vitamin C enhances environmental protection, but it does not replace sunscreen.

Is the New C E Ferulic Worth It?

The new formula is a thoughtful upgrade rather than a complete reinvention.

SkinCeuticals preserved the antioxidant combination responsible for the original serum’s reputation while adding carnosine and Endophytol to target glycation, pollution and chronic inflammation. The price has increased only slightly, and the texture, scent and application remain familiar.

For current C E Ferulic users, the new version offers broader support for firmness, resilience and visible skin longevity without sacrificing the qualities they already enjoy.

For new users, it delivers the benefits of the original gold-standard vitamin C formula with additional ingredients designed around a more modern understanding of how skin ages.

The original C E Ferulic was built to protect and correct. The new C E Ferulic builds on that foundation by helping defend more of the processes that influence how skin looks and functions over time.
